Jaguar E-Type Jaguar E-Type V12 Serie 3 (1971-1974)
Ever since its first appearance at the 1961 Geneva motor show, the Jaguar E-Type has been
instantly identifiable, all over the world, by its distinctive and highly individual styling.
Enzo Ferrari called the E-Type „The most beautiful car ever made‘. In 2004, Sports Car
International magazine placed the E-Type at „Number One“ on their list of Top Sports Cars
of the 1960s and as recently as March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked First in a The Daily
Telegraph online list of the world‘s „100 most beautiful cars“ of all time.
10 years after its
debut the Mk III was introduced which featured a brand new 5.3 litre V12 Jaguar Engine
to supplement the 4.2 litre „XK“ motor, making Jaguar, Ferrari and Lamborghini the only
three manufacturers offering a V12 road car. To match the improved performance it fitted
with ventilated disc brakes at the front and air scoops at the rear. The track was 9 inches
wider which, combined with wider wheels and „Anti-Dive“ front suspension geometry,
gave the car much better roadholding, particularly under breaking. Lucas transistorised
ignition and Adwest power assisted rack and pinion steering where now standard. The
new version of the Roadster had a 2+2 wheelbase which made the car longer, roomier and
increased the „Cubby Box“ luggage space. The „space“ in the fuel tank was also improved
to 18 gallons (70 litres) capacity and the turning circle was improved to 36ft.
